Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a companion/sequel to Quake IV, with a narrative set in the centre of the war between humanity and the Strogg that began in Quake II. In contrast to Quake IV the game focuses on multiplayer, with gameplay similar to that found in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. As with Quake IV, the game was developed out of house under id's supervision, this time by British developer Splash Damage. Ports of the game were released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Mac OS X.

Quake Wars allows you to control vehicles and aircraft in game, and includes much larger outdoor areas than those found in Quake IV or Doom III, which were also based on the id tech 4 engine. The game is class-based, players join either the Global Defence Force or the Strogg to achieve common objectives, the completion of which provide rewards in experience points. Objectives, capabilities and equipment differ between the various classes. The accumulated experience points gained then unlock other equipment, armaments and abilities.
