Q3TOURNEY3 is one of the more popular tournament levels in Quake III, it consists of two castle like structures facing each other connected by a series of small walkways and a wafer thin bridge suspended over an enormous fog pit. The first castle contains some plasma guns and the rocket launcher, the other side houses the railgun and a suit of red armour and the walkways are almost empty.

Hell's Gate is one of the few arenas (also see Q3DM15, Demon Keep) that contain the Battle Suit, which prevents the wearer from taking splash damage from explosives. In this piece it sits suspended over the central bridge that leads to the lower floor of the second castle, needless to say anyone who dares to dart across will be set upon from all angles and will need good balance to do so without falling. To cross this way when playing against multiple opponents or one with good aim is a risk, but you can easily jump from the bridge to one of the side platforms if necessary.

The level has seen numerous conversions to other games and gametypes, including a Painkeep Arena version (Q3TOURNEY3-PKA), and has made four reappearances in Quake Live since its beta; as a part of the training level (QZTRAINING) and the warmup arena (QZWARMUP), decked out in a futuristic theme with the fog pits removed, third as a straight conversion of the original (QZTOURNEY3) and lastly as Hell's Gate Redux (QZTOURNEY5), a second version with the fog pits removed in it's original texture set.

Hell's Gate is one of the classic Q3A levels and rewards continued gaming in duels, its sustained popularity because of it, rocket jumpers can make their way up to the rooftops of the building for sniping positions, and there is adequate cover in the supporting beams of the structure to make doing so worthwhile. Sometimes the simplest designs are the best.

There are no secrets in this level.
