Devastation Quake 2
Oh man! I got Devastation
working and I'm telling you, it is a blast to play with your friends on a LAN!
Nothing beats putting a smackdown on a bunch of grunts while you are in a 'Devastator.'
Here is a snippet from the Home Page.
- What is a Devastator?
A Devastator is a human controlled, slow moving, heavy assault vehicle with
2 very...big...guns. There are two types of Devastators so far: DevastatorCG and
DevastatorRL.
Definitely worth checking out! Download it now!

New Eraser Bot 1.10
After a small hiatus, I'm coming back with a new version of the Eraser Bot. It's
version 1.10, the same version found on the Quake2: Extremities Add-on. If you
are running this bot, or ever have for that matter, make sure you get this new update.
Eraser 1.10 features better combat skills and much improved CTF routines. Don't hesitate,
download now!

No head shots?!
Alright all you Action fiends, er, friends... The new 1.52 server binary has
been compiled and is now available for download here.
It's only a server upgrade that addresses a bug in not being able to shoot a crouched
player (I hate that). Anyway, be sure to get it and upgrade your servers

It's not USB, but it will do
In case you missed it, there is thread on the
Message Board
Explaing how to make the mouse on your Sparc sample at a faster rate. Here is one of the posts
explaining how:
OK... Here's the description on how to modify your type5 rev -03 mouse to do 4800
baud instead of 1200:
You need a low power soldering iron (<25W) and a solder remover. Open up the Compact-1
mouse (remove the three screws). Lift out the circuit board. On the bottom side (green) of the
circuit board, there are lots of surface mount components. Remove the SMT resistor
labelled R3. Move it to R2. Orientation does not matter.
In fact, the resistor is just a 0 ohm resistor, so you can short it using whatever
means you like. :-)
The mice that are currently shipping in the country kits are now missing a zero
OHM SMT resistor at W9 (right next to R2). In addition to the above instructions,
you have to run a wire between the W9 pads to get the new mouse to work at 4800.
Once you've done this you have a really smooth mouse!

So there you have it! Stop by the
Message Board
for the rest of the thread.

Ask and you shall recieve...
Awright people, Beta 2 of the Quake 2 client has been completed. This time though,
The Dev Team wizards have built a Solaris x86 version of the client as well as the
Solaris Sparc! So all you people that participated in
Sun Microsystem's Free Solaris for Non-commercial
Use Program will be happy about that. Beta 2 can be found, as usual, on the
Downloads page. Also, please be sure to stop by the
Message Boards
and let the guys know what a fantastic job they are doing. The boards are also the place
to go for your support needs as well. Now get going!!

Q2 Client Download without Install Script
After many of you had problems with cutting out the compressed file
from the install script, I thought it wise to make the client available
without the install script. Go get it here

Can you perform ?
It's time to kill those background services and run that Quake 2 Client on your
Sparc Box to see how many 'Frames Per Second' you can get on the timedemos.
Go across to
The Performance Page to see what you have to do.....

The Time Has Come!
Well, the Dev Team has decided to release the highly anticipated Quake 2
Client binary early. That's right, EARLY. In fact, today is a good day.
But before you get too excited, I need to let you know a few things. This is
a BETA, so you might encounter some problems. New
Message Boards
have been set up to give you a place to post your Bug Reports, Problems, and Feedback.
Please do not Email myself or the Dev Team regarding bugs. Use the Boards!
Well, without any more delay, get your fix at the downloads page.

Quake 2 Alpha 3
Just got word from Baz, of the Dev Team, that they just released Alpha 3 of the
Quake 2 client for internal testing. Here is a quick snippet of the Email I recieved:
...we're going to release Beta 1 on Wednesday, June 2...
We just released Alpha 3 internaly, and it works very well. Almost no bugs...
He also went on to say:
The Beta 1 will be for Solaris 7 and above only, and probably just for Sparc
hardware. We need to setup a Intel machine with SparcWorks. I'll try to get it
done by Wednesday.
Can you smell the excitement? Get over to the
Message Boards
and show your support!

The Forums
have a new addition, The User Contribution board. This board is for all the programs
and scripts that you have written as tools for your server and would like to share
with the rest of the community. File attachments are allowed, but the limit is set
to 100K. If this turns out to be too low, let me know and I will increase the file size. Also,
some new features have been added, so be sure to check them out and update your User Profile.
