What can you tell me about Serious Sam skins?

Not a lot at the moment, as the game has only been released. we will update this answer in the near future. The game comes with several skinnable models, and it should be easy for modellers to create more. The engine is highcolur, so no need to worry about indexing colours.

Where are the skin files kept?

Skin files are kept in .gro files, but similar to Quake you can have your /models/player/sam directory extracted, and the engine will recognize it and load data from there.

How do you extract/export files from/to the package files?

Using Winzip. Same thing is used for packing, you zip the files and name them .GRO

What about the palette?

The skins are in true colour + alpha chanel if you need one.

How many textures are used per skin? How many can be used?

Croteam used 3 skins per player model. You can use as many as you want, but I doubt you'll need more than three. Also you can use some FX textures if you wish.

What size are the textures?

We used textures like this: Head - 128x128 upperbody - 256x256 lower body (named PLAYER since you start from there) - 256x256

Can I see the skins without having to load the game? Is there a model viewer included wit the game?

Yes, our model setup tool, Serious Modeler is included in the box. When you work on your skin in your paint proggy, you save the file i.e. torso.TGA and if model uses torso.TGA skin, you can easily update the skin with CTRL+SHIFT+R. Skin file is then saved as torso.TEX (which is our 2D format for skins and other textures)
